About

The Crew
Weeb Streets is Utah's premiere Japanese Music Events organizer. Grown from guerilla street performances as early as 2016 by a collective of Japanese Music and Dance enthusiasts. Weeb Streets is running events to provide space for Utah's growing community of Japanese music fans. Weeb Streets would like to help create new performance and rehearsal opportunities for the growing community of Utah Independent Idols and Dance Cover artists. Our founder and original members could be found dancing at local anime conventions for the past decade. Taking inspiration from the Japanese Chika (underground) idol scene, Weeb Streets is happy to welcome new faces to both the stage and the audience.
The Name
You might be wondering why we decided on the name “Weeb Streets”? The reason is straightforward in the sense that we consider ourselves “Weebs dancing in the streets.” The slang “Weeb” is derived from the word “Weeaboo.” It is originally an insult targeted towards fans of Japanese Popular Culture. Despite the word's origins we have noticed a trend in “Weeaboo Culture” becoming it’s own phenomenon online. The term as of late has been able to be viewed more positively and become a catch-all for Japanese Cultural influences.
